In the fierce heat of the midday sun, I wandered through the souks of Syria’s capital and spied a stall owner catching a quick nap among his antiques.
NB: While the atrocities occurring in Syria today are devastating, I feel privileged to have experienced the country in a more peaceful time. It really is such a beautiful place. If you want to make a donation to the relief effort in Syria, there are numerous charities available. Alternatively, you can donate via the Red Cross here.

July 16, 2015 at 6:00 pmWhat a beautiful picture! I hope Syria becomes safe enough to visit once again. I was able to visit Damascus two weeks before the country erupted in chaos, but I’d love to return and visit other parts of the country.
